Scientists See Chernobyl as a Successful Wildlife Preserve
. Supposedly this is true of Bikini Atoll as well. James Lovelock has proposed that to cover our coming energy crisis we need to build nuclear plants. To deal with the waste, he advocates dumping it in our national parks, to keep humans and developers out. Humanity is the most damaging component in any ecosystem.
From the article;
"It's evolution on steroids. There are a lot of deleterious mutations in species but these seem to be very quickly weeded out," Morris explains. Many young fish living in the reactor's cooling ponds are deformed, but adults tend to be healthy, implying that those harmed by radiation die young.But humanity never learns;
All this has led some people to propose that tourism to Chernobyl would help develop the area.One of the reasons for the health and vigour of the ecosystem was that humans couldn't enter there, couldn't destroy or interfere with the ecosystem. I am with Lovelock on this one. cam
